Snowy first day of spring
Happy first day of spring! While it doesn't feel very spring like as I look out my window at the snow I know that before I know it spring will be here. I don't know about you but one of my favorite parts of spring is being able to be outdoors more. My kids love playing outside in our back yard or going to the park. With starting homeschooling this year I want to incorporate outdoor adventures. It could be something as simple as collecting leaves in our back yard or joining some other moms on a play date. A great resource for local events is a website called Macaroni Kid. This website lets you know what is going on in your area and there are newsletters you can sign up to receive on any topics you are interested in. Memberships are also a great idea. When family members ask you what your children would like for Christmas or for their birthday you could always suggest a membership instead of toys. Locally the Reading Public Museum does an amazing job with their children's exhibits which have different themes every couple months. One of the membership I have for this year is to Longwood Gardens. Longwood Gardens has a children's indoor and outdoor area in additions to plenty of trails to walk. What memberships have you thought about getting?

Hello.... it's me
Hello again! I am in the process of gathering extra worksheets and fun activity ideas to pair with each week in the My Father's World curriculum. I have started a Pinterest board where you will be able to easily find everything. I will continue to add more ideas to the pinterest boards so you have multiple activities and worksheets to choose from each week!

Prep
The kindergarten curriculum I will be using is by My Father's World. On their website you will find the option to get the basic curriculum or to get the deluxe curriculum. Since this is my first time doing home schooling I decided to go with the deluxe curriculum. I have learn from others who have used this curriculum before is that the best time to buy is in January when they start having discounts on the overall price of the curriculum. The discount percentage goes down steadily each month until the beginning of the school year. After receiving the kid in the mail I realize I would need some other products to help keep me organized route home schooling. The first thing I purchased was an accordion style organizer to separate each of the weeks. I'm also a very unscheduled person so I decided it daily planner would also be a good idea to keep me on track. The curriculum also suggest other materials together to prepare for the lessons. This list includes pencils, crayons, colored pencils, clay, scissors, tape, glue stick, stapler, ruler, watercolor paint, and paint brushes unlined white paper, colored construction paper, dried beans or buttons (for math) drinking straws (colorful straws are fun 100 for math, more for crafts) index cards (any size) for home schooling only: 26 letter size envelopes and a small box to hold them (for picture cards) Optional materials: magazines (for illustrations both general and nature magazines), 3 ring binder, 29 file folders, wooden craft sticks (or drinking straws) for puppet handles. Most of these other items I purchased through Amazon or at Walmart. If you have a lot of items to pick up at Walmart I like to do this site to store option it saves me time of wandering around Walmart and I can just go to the back and pick up all my items at once.

Welcome!
Welcome to my blog! Let me start at the beginning with why I decided to start a blog. My family is going though a lot of new experiences. One of the new experiences will begin this August when I start homeschooling my son. I am excited and a tad nervous for this new adventure. I thought a blog would be a great way to share my experience with you. I will share the highs, the lows, what worked, what didn't. I know all kids are not the same and don't learn the same way so one size schooling does not fit all. I hope you'll come along on this adventure as I begin homeschooling!
